Timor is an extension of Teknologi Industri Mobil Rakyat, and the company’s full name is Timor Putra National. The company is owned by Tommy Suharto, son of former president Soeharto.
After the Asian economic crisis which led to the Kia Motors went bankrupt in 1997 (purchased in 1998 by Hyundai), and the collapse of the Soeharto regime, the Timor project was also closed.
